Arrangements & Paraphrases

• Bach-Rachmaninoff
• A Disklavier recording (Musical Sculpting) not released on CD, completed June 2000 at Yamaha Artist Services in New york. Used by them as their demo piece for the Disklavier Pro.

• George Gershwin: Rhapsody in Blue 
• This is the solo piano version of Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue, recorded by me in Vancouver’s Orpheum Theater for the CBC in 1988? Part of the same concert where I premiered Glenn Morley’s Rock concerto with a rock band. I didn’t realize that Gershwin’s piano roll recording of this was doctored (notes added after the fact), so I learned it as written.

• Gershwin medley
• This was recorded by the CBC at Hart House (1983?), part of a 3 concert series of cabaret concerts (Vienna, Berlin, and New York), featuring cross-over music from the 20s-30s. The arrangements are by Gershwin, the medley strung together by me.

• Mac-The-Knife – Love song – Berlin Medley
• This was a Cabaret Suite I wrote for the CBC live recording/concert “Ein Berliner Kabaret” (1983) Paraphrases, arrangements, and medleys on music from Berlin of the 20s-30s, Mac the Knife, songs by Marlene Dietrich and a love song by Kurt Weill. This was recorded at Hart House, part of the same CBC cabaret series.

• Dohnanyi – Kreisler - Godowsky
• My first vinyl, a CBC recording in 1972 Recorded by Diana Brown at Eaton Auditorium. These are virtuoso arrangements that I also played a year later in my London debut at Wigmore Hall ("Nothing Original" 1973).

Beethoven Miniatures

• This CD is a copy of the vinyl record produced at EMI Abbey Road studios in London. It was released in 1981 on the Moss Music Group label (formerly Vox). The master was lost when Moss went under. This CD is derived from a vinyl CD (hence the pops).
  

Beethoven - Solo & Orchestral 

• Piano Sonata Op. 111, Concerto No. 1

• The concerto was recorded by the CBC Vancouver chamber orchestra with Eliot Gardner conducting the Vancouver Chamber Orchestra in a studio recording around 1980 or 81 (?). The sonata Op.111 was part of my graduation recital from U. of T. in 1970

Early 20th Century

• Prokofiev Sarcasms - Bartok Improvisations
  
• The Prokofiev Sarcasms and Bartok Improvisations are from a CBC vinyl release of 1972, the rest are from various CBC broadcasts from the 70s.

 

Beethoven Trios

• Kakadu variations, The Archduke Trio
• These two Beethoven piano trios with Steven Staryk violin and Tsuyoshi cello are from the Stratford Summer Music Festival of 1982, recorded at City Hall.

• The Ghost trio, Beethoven-Webern Collage
• Same SSM season (the Beethoven trio series with Staryk and Tsutsumi). The Collage mixes Beethoven Bagatelles Op. 125 (solo piano) with Anton Webern pieces for violin and cello. It makes the statement that there is a continuity between the first and second Viennese school (Haydn,Mozart,Beethoven and Schoenberg, Berg,Webern), and that Beethoven was an avant-garde composer in his later works.
